The file format used (at 320kbps) in Spotify streaming. A lossy, open-source alternative to MP3 and AAC, unrestricted by patents. OGG (not hi-res): Sometimes called by its full name, Ogg Vorbis. MQA (hi-res): A lossless compression format that packages hi-res files for more efficient streaming. Convenient for storing music on phones and iPods. MP3 (not hi-res): Popular, lossy compressed format ensures small file size but is far from the best sound quality. The downside is that it’s not supported by Apple (so not compatible with Apple Music). It's royalty-free and is considered the preferred format for downloading and storing hi-res albums. It comes in 2.8MHz, 5.6MHz and 11.2MHz varieties but, as it's high quality and uncompressed, is (mostly) impractical for streaming.įLAC (hi-res): This lossless compression format supports hi-res sample rates, takes up about half the space of WAV, and stores metadata. It is lossless and uncompressed (so big file sizes) but not hugely popular.ĭSD (hi-res): The single-bit format used for Super Audio CDs. In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalogue is also encoded using ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) in resolutions between 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD quality) and 24-bit/192 kHz.ĪIFF (hi-res): Apple's alternative to WAV, with better metadata support. I'm not sure if this Denon applies de-emphasis when doing digital-to-analog conversion, is there a way I can de-emphasize? I don't want to de-emphasize the files themselves it screws AccuRip and other things.Īny other ways I can get my multichannel FLACs to this receiver without it doing any modifications to the original audio expect for de-emphasis when needed?ALAC (hi-res): Apple has also developed its own lossless audio compression technology. I also want to de-emphasize some FLACs I have that have pre-emphasis. It will play 5.1 DTS-HD, so maybe if I converted the FLACs to DTS-HD or PCM it might work. I also can't get it to play multichannel FLACs, it just converts it to stereo PCM. It looks like it always upsamples 44.1kHz to 48kHz, so it doesn't even do a 1:1 transfer. I tried using the Nvidia Shield TV, both the Plex and Kodi apps.First I tried the built in "Media Server" DLNA client on my Denon receiver some of the files played back OK but some, including all of my multichannel FLACs, just gave me "File Format Error".I have Plex Media Server running on my Shield TV, and it has a DLNA server. All my music files are stored on an Nvidia Shield TV's external USB hard drive. I have a Denon AVR-X1300W and I want to play 5.1 FLAC (and regular 2.0/4.0).
